Kiara breathed deeply as the taxi driver stopped in front of her house. She glanced over at her new slave and wondered what she thought about it. Stepping out, Kiara paid the driver and pulled her keys out of the pocket. "Um, you're room is up the stairs and the first door on the left, if you'd like to check it out." The door was quickly unlicked, and opened into a small hallway, with the living room to the right, as well as the stairs, and the kitchen and library to the left.
Even though it was a Western-style home, Kiara had still picked up a few of the habits of the Japanese. Her shoes went off and onto the mat to the side of the door. She gave a slight smile to Heinkel and pointed out which each room was on the ground floor. "I'm going to start making dinner- pork cutlets- so you're free to do what you like. But I'm going to need a list by tomorrow of the things you'd like and need. Books, a picture for your room, clothes.... All right?"
This was far more uncomfortable than Kiara had thought it would be. She hadn't thought of owning another person before, and now she not only owned one, she had no idea what to do with her! The best idea Kiara had was to treat her as a guest. At least until they had gotten to know eachother better. IF Heinkel wanted to get to know Kiara better. That thought depressed her, since they would be dealing with eachother for a long time. Right now Kiara didn't really have any friends... she was rather lonely, to be truthful.

The blonde had remained silent, as was her way, during the entire ride back to Kiara's home. She followed her Mistress' example, and removed her boots at the mat beside the door. Silently, the tall Austrian woman followed, as the younger female pointed out the layout of the first floor. Heinkel blinked a bit, when Kiara mentioned that she had a bedroom. Biting back a comment about how she had never expected to be so kindly treated, the sapphire-eyed woman merely murmured her thanks. In all her four years of being shipped around the wold as auction good, she had heard each and every horror story that could be told about Masters and/or Mistresses.
Hell, she'd heard then enough that she could probably recount chunks from memory. This, however... This was nothing like what she had expected. Nothing like she had heard. Nothing like she had secretly feared. IN her mind, she had always seen death as being the lesser of the two evils, and yet... Now she was beginning to wonder if she had been mistaken. If, perhaps, Kiara wouldn't be cruel with time... Or maybe she was just deluding herself, keeping herself from seeing that Kiara actually did care...
The hope in her breast blossomed just that tiny bit more with these thoughts. Snapping herself back to the present, Heinkel registered what Kiara was saying. Dinner, things she would like for her room, clothing... Wait, dinner contained... "I'm sorry to be a bother," she spoke simply and clearly, but her voice wasn't loud at all. Though, as always, her accent overshadowed her word. "But I don't eat meat." Bracing herself, Heinkel wondered if Kiara would hit her for having to go to the trouble of making something she discovered her slave didn't eat. It had happened before, with the auctioneers, and so the blonde was what one might call "gun shy" about displeasing people...
Not that she really cared, as she was used to being beaten and abused, but eventually, she learned that if one was unassuming and as invisible as possible, then the beatings ans abuse would be less. After all, she had had it beaten into her head since she was a child that she should be obedient. She had rebelled as much as she could, but her instincts of self preservation had kept her from doing so completely. An interesting thought entered the blonde Eagle Angelic's mind at that moment. She wondered how Kiara would take what she would end up requesting for her room...
After all, it wasn't everyday that one requested the things Heinkel was slowly coming to have in mind. Of course, there was one thing she would like to have, as soon as was possible. She explained this in as subservient a manner as she could, and then posed her request. "A Bible... Ze Catholic version, if possible..." She supposed that she had now outed herself as the Catholic she was, and wondered if, eventually, she would also share with Kiara the one, unattainable dream she had always had. Perhaps she would, and perhaps she wouldn't. Unattainable as it was, it was something she had wanted ever since she was a small child. Of course, she had never spoken of it to anyone before.
After all, it wasn't a kemono slave's place to dream of taking holy orders within the Roman Catholic Church.

Didn't eat meat, huh? Kiara gave a small chuckle. "I guess I didn't really expect the kemono I bought to not eat meat, but..." She paused thoughtfully, mentally reviewing the things in her refridgerator. "There's stuff for salad. You'll have to help make it since it's more ingredients, though." It was something that Kiara would have to keep in mind. She made a mental note to go to a real bookstore and get a vegetarian cookbook- not being one herself, Kiara had no recipes outside of two for different types of vegetable soup, and it was pretty certain that Heinkel would get tired of those and fresh veggies all the time. A little variety never hurt anyone.
It did make her curious, though, that Heinkel wouldn't be a meat eater. Wasn't her kemno half-eagle? Was being a vegetarian her choice or was she born like that? Ah, well. It didn't matter as long as there weren't going to be any complaints about what Kiara was going to be eating. And she supposed that eating a little less meat wasn't going to harm her health.
The boyish woman then made an odd request- a Catholic Bible. Kiara froze where she was, her mind having trouble wrapping around the request. A Bible? Not just a Bible, but from one of the most conservative Christian denominations in the world! What on earth would Heinkel want with one of those? Her eyes studied her kemono's face, having finally processed the request but now burning with questions.
"A Catholic Bible. I'll see what I can do." Those were the only words that she could say at this point. Where would she find one of those?! Japan wasn't exactly religious, but Heinkel had asked so very submissively. In fact, it had been the first thing she had asked for, so it must have meant something to the kemono, something very important. Kiara couldn't deny her it. What kind of person would that make her, if she did?
So Kiara gave a slight smile, and asked Heinkel whether she would like to make dinner now or later when she had explored the house a bit.

Heinkel simply nodded. She was feeling strange already, more willing to be forthright with this young woman. More willing to be open than she had been with anyone - save perhaps a few rare moments with a certain parrot - for years now. So, she tried to find a happy medium. Not to give away too much, but still to make sure Kiara felt there was enough trust between them to keep her from hurting the eagle kemono. "I haff no problem vith making my own food... I haff been doing zat since I vos a child, after all." Of course, she could sense the questions Kiara had about her vegetarianism, as most everyone did, upon finding out that little tidbit of information.
After all, an eagle kemono who didn't eat meat? Extremely strange indeed. So, she hoped to explain somethings to Kiara, though again without giving too much away. "I don't eat meat because of zings which happen to me as a child..." She knew it didn't give much explanation, but it was all she could offer right now. Bottom line, she still didn't trust Kiara, and though the younger woman was kind enough, Heinkel was gun-shy, for lack of a better term. Because, really, hadn't it been a seemingly-kind woman whom had held her eyes open as her sight was damaged, thus forever rendering her eyes so sensitive to light that she even now, indoors and a dusk, had to wear her dark glasses?
And then, came the reaction the masculine woman had been all but dreading. As soon as she posed the request, she saw Kiara tense up, her expression reading "deer in the headlights." And though Heinkel berated herself for doing the thing that would most likely get her punished, she knew she had had to make the request of the Bible. She had grown up using the copies which the priests who schooled her lent her, and later what copy she could steal and hide from her captors for longer than a few days, but... She had always wanted her own, though it didn't have to be a new one, or even fancy. A plain, second-hand copy in good repair was all she asked for, and which she would use well. Besides that, she wondered if Kiara would mind if she slipped off Sundays to Mass, once she found a Church here...
And her Mistress' reply - so different from what she had expected - pulled her back to the present. Clearing her mind forcibly of these wishful thoughts, the Austrian woman gave Kiara a small, almost hesitant smile, and murmured, "Ich danke Ihnen sehr, meine Herrin ... Sie wissen nicht, wie viel mir das bedeutet." And then, translating from German, she repeated her words in her slightly more so accented than normal English. "I zank you very much, my Mistress... You don't know how much zat means to me." And, in truth, Heinkel herself wasn't sure if she could grasp the full extend of how much it meant to her.
How much it meant to know that someone actually gave a damn whether she lived or died, after so many years of being all on her own, even Heinkel didn't fully comprehend as of yet. Perhaps... She would, soon.

Kiara's eyes fell to the floor when Heinkel said that she didn't eat meat because of what happened to her as a child. That was... darker, more harsh than what she had figured the reason would be, and it made her stomach twist. At least Kiara had something she wouldn't mind eating- she would have to show the eagle kemono the small garden in the back, since that was where Kiara got most of her vegetables.
The reaction to her saying that she would get Heinkel a Bible, though... Her smile became more genuine. "It's perfectly alright. As said, whatever you would like. This is your home now, you should feel comfortable here." And there were no plans to get rid of the woman anytime soon. Kiara knew that when she bought Heinkel, it would be for a lifetime- how anyone could trade people like pieces of meat was beyond her. That meant that whatever would make the eagle kemono happy to stay her would be gotten as soon as possible.
She stepped into the kitchen to start preparing her own meal. "Anycase, I was wondering about that other language you speak- is it German? If I'm wrong, I'm sorry- I'm not really very good with languages. And have you travelled a lot?"
The wheels in her mind were turning as she cracked an egg, turning on the stove with her other hand. If Heinkel was religious, then she'd probably want to go to Church, wouldn't she? Kiara resolved to get on her laptop this evening and look for the location of one nearby... and to give Heinkel some money to get there. She would be able to order the Bible as the same time. Her eyes strayed towards the slave that she now owned, wondering what she was thinking about all this. It was too difficult to see behind those dark glasses, though.
She hesitated, then got up the courage to ask about it. "Why do you were those sunglasses? We're inside- do you ever take them off?" Kiara's eyes fell to the meat that she was now breading, and placed it into the pan of oil. It started crackling nicely as it cooked, emitting a lovely smell and turning a golden brown. It was a nice distraction from her own embarassment- what if she had touched a sore spot with her new slave?
