I wasn't sure whether I should post this in the games or not, so I just thought I'd dump it here and Nyuu or Ripper can move it if they feel the need to. I did this on another board and the results were very interesting. Basically it involves calculating a character's personal cards based on the letters of their name, date of birth, etc. I just use a character's name because it's easier. Basically, each letter of the alphabet is given a value: A, J, S = 1 B, K, T = 2 C, L, U = 3 D, M, V = 4 E. N, W = 5 F, O, X = 6 G, P, Y = 7 H, Q, Z = 8 I, R = 9 Then you take the numerical value of each letter of the character's name and add them up. If you get a number that's over 22, add those numbers together until you get a single digit. Here's an example using my name: Krystal = 2 + 9 + 7 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 3 = 25 2 + 5 = 7 7 = The Chariot So my name card is the Chariot If you end up with a number between 10 - 21, you will actually have two paired cards, because one card can be reduced from the other. Here is the breakdown of the cards and sets: 1 The Magician 2 The High Priestess 3 The Empress 4 The Emperor 5 The Hierophant 6 The Lovers 7 The Chariot 8 Strength 9 The Hermit 10 The Wheel of Fortune + The Magician 11 Justice + The High Priestess 12 The Hanged Man + The Empress 13 Death + The Emperor 14 Temperance + The Hierophant 15 The Devil + The Lovers 16 The Tower + The Chariot 17 The Star + Strength 18 The Moon + The Hermit 19 The Sun + The Wheel of Fortune + The Magician 20 Judgement + The High Priestess 21 The World + The Empress 22 The Fool Try it and see what cards your characters end up getting! Also, since everyone has different names for different areas of their life (nicknames, pet names, etc.) they will have different cards for each name. I usually just use their full name. This website has interpretations of the sets, for those of you with single cards, just look at the parts that talk about your card: www.tarotschool.com/BirthCards.htmlI know this all seems very complicated, but it's really not that hard. Oh, and I like to practice reading for characters, so if anyone wants to ask about how their relationship with X is going to go, let me know and I can do a reading for them, just no yes/no questions.

Evan Emmory 5 + 4 + 1 + 5 + 5 + 4 + 4 + 6 + 9 + 7 = 50 5 + 0 = 5 The Hierophant
Christopher York 3 + 8 + 9 + 9 + 1 + 2 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 5 + 9 + 7 + 6 + 9 + 2 = 91 10 The Wheel of Fortune + The Magician
Akatsuki Shizuka 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 3 +2 + 9 + 1 + 8 + 9 + 8 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 53 5 + 3 = 8 Strength
Isabella Cole 9 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 5 + 3 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 6 + 3 + 5 = 42 4 + 2 = 6 The Lovers
Arianna White 1 + 9 + 9 + 1 + 5 + 5 + 1 + 5 + 8 + 9 + 2 + 5 = 60 6 + 0 = 6 The Lovers

I've decided to mess around with reading the cards, so I found this neat spread to use to gain information about a relationship. Basically, fifteen cards are arranged in pairs: 1/2 - First impression 3/4 - Upon learning more 5/6 - Can they relate to each other? 7/8 - How attractive do they find each other? 9/10 - Compatibility as friends 11/12 - Compatibility as lovers 13, 14, 15 - Overall Where the first number in every pair is the person asking the question and the second is their potential friend/love interest, whatever. It can be found here: www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=84032So, just for kicks, I'm going to do one for Hideki and Garnet: The question: If Hideki and Garnet got together, what would happen? 1/2 - First impression Two of Wands/Seven of Pentacles The Two of Wands is a card of boldness, of taking initiative, of audacity and original thinking. The Seven of Pentacles is a card of reaping one's harvest, of making difficult decisions, being at a crossroads, and a reminder that decisions come at a cost. I can definitely see how this applies to Hideki and Garnet. Hideki sees Garnet as something new, an exciting new venture, and one that has the potential for scandal. Whereas Garnet is definitely at a crossroads, perhaps a little apprehensive of Hideki. Interestingly, the Seven of Pentacles is also a card that cautions the person asking the question to conserve financial resources and not make risky decisions. Perhaps an indication of Garnet's past relationship with his old master? 3/4 - Upon learning more The Moon/Eight of Wands The Moon is a card of illusion, of dreams and nightmares, of inner questing. The Eight of Wands is a card of quick action, swiftness, excitement. The moon could relate to Hideki's superstitious nature. (The companion book for this deck talks of phantoms and spectres). The Eight of Wands almost suggests that Garnet will be kept busy, and it will be an exciting time for him! 5/6 - Can they relate to each other? Seven of Swords/Knight of Pentacles The Seven of Swords suggests deception, even theft, but also guile and diplomacy, cunning and trickery, and also a "lone wolf" mentality. The Knight of Pentacles is someone who is dedicated, loyal, and persistent. He is practical and reliable. I have to laugh at this, because these cards are pretty close to complete opposites. Normally the Seven of Swords indicates deception or theft, which is interesting because Hideki hates liars. The less common meaning is that this is a card of going it alone, of diplomacy, tact, and guile, which are qualities Hideki has in abundance. The Knight of Pentacles, however, is practical and reliable, someone who leaves nothing to chance, and loyal, very, very loyal. Perhaps this may be an indication that Hideki will have Garnet's loyalty throughout the relationship, or the cards are screwing with us, they do that. 7/8 - How attractive do they find each other? The Chariot/Nine of Pentacles The Chariot is a card of control, of mastering emotions, although it is also potentially a sign that someone is abusing their power. The Nine of Pentacles is a card of material prosperity, of security, comfort, and leisure. Well, Garnet's feelings are clear! He's definitely attracted to Hideki's wealth and the lifestyle that comes with it. The Chariot is a little more obtuse, and indicates emotional control. It seems unlike Hideki to keep his emotions on a tight leash. The Chariot is also a card of daring and authority, however, so maybe he feels as if Garnet will be easily dominated (yeah, right). 9/10 - Compatibility as friends Eight of Pentacles/The Sun The Eight of Pentacles is a "work" card, associated with apprenticeship and the dedication it takes to "get the job done", of cultivating skills. The Sun is a card of joy, material prosperity, and completion. Immediately when I turned up the Eight of Pentacles I thought that Hideki viewed Garnet as an apprentice of sorts, someone he can enlist to help him keep Shibuya's nightlife running smoothly. The Sun card indicates that Garnet will be a very happy Kemono as Hideki's friend, reaping all the benefits of his prosperity, freeloader. 11/12 - Compatibility as lovers Ace of Wands/Ten of Wands The Ace of Wands is a card of beginnings, of a burst of power, a sign that "now is the time to act". The Ten of Wands is a card of burdens, of wasted energy. These two cards together seem to indicate that they will have fun together, but that the feeling won't last. The Ten of Wands in particular indicates that Garnet will come to see the relationship as more of a burden as time goes on. 13, 14, 15 - Overall The Empress, Queen of Swords, The Star The Empress is a card of prosperity, abundance, and fertility, of creativity and motherhood. The Queen of Swords is proud and clear-headed, independent, and loyal, but also deceitful and emotionally distant. The Star is a card of hope and faith, a light at the end of a tunnel. I'd say these three cards are indicating that their partnership will be fruitful (the Empress), if they keep clear heads and don't let emotions get in the way (the Queen of Swords). The Star card might be interpreted as advice to keep faith when the relationship is on the rocks.

No problem! The question: If Luke and Seijin got together, what would happen? 1/2 - First impression Page of Wands/The Hermit The Page of Wands is an optimistic, sensual person, with a zest for life, a free spirit, the Page of Wands is also fearless, but may possess a childlike view of the world (for good or for ill). The Hermit is a card of solitude, a "lone wolf" personality, a card of observation and detachment. I think this pair speaks for itself! It's interesting to note that wands is the suit of fire. Still feeling that cigarette burn, Luke? Seriously, now, the Page of Wands and the Hermit practically are Luke and Seijin (the Hermit observes with detachment, like a doctor) as they are, with no deception involved. 3/4 - Upon learning more Three of Cups/King of Cups The Three of Cups is a card of community, a card of (any and all) celebrations, a reminder to be sociable and carefree. The King of Cups is someone who is calm on the surface, yet sensual underneath, a diplomatic and mysterious individual, sultry and sinister. He's also a healer (especially of emotional pain). The Three of Cups is very much a "party" card (or any social gatherings, really). The King of Cups suggests that Seijin will be a stimulating partner (in more ways than one), but with a warning that the King of Cups is always hiding something. Still, the two cards together suggest that they would both benefit from going somewhere where there's lots of people. Weren't they going to dinner, last I checked? 5/6 - Can they relate to each other? Page of Cups/Two of Pentacles In terms of elemental dignities, the Page of Cups is the earthly aspect of water, and pentacles is the suit of earth, so they are compatible. More specifically, the Page of Cups is a dreamer (interestingly, the book I'm using lists photographer as one of the professions the Page of Cups is likely to engage in). The Two of Pentacles is a card of balance and flux, of give and take, "quid pro quo" which suggests a need to take others' needs into account. 7/8 - How attractive do they find each other? Death/The Fool Death is first and foremost a card of change, of life-altering transitions, the ending of cycles and the beginning of new ones. It might also indicate a person with a dark sense of humour! The Fool, in contrast, is a card of new beginnings, of possibilities. As a person, the Fool is a joker, the life of the party, someone who loves to make people laugh. The first thing that popped into my head was that this will be an odd relationship. The Fool and Death together make an...odd...couple. Since they're both major arcana, perhaps the cards are suggesting that their attraction to each other will be on a deep and profound level, or maybe it'll be the sort of attraction that can't be explained. 9/10 - Compatibility as friends Seven of Cups/Ace of Pentacles The Seven of Cups is a card of dreams and fantasies, indulgence and desire, whereas the Ace of Pentacles is a card of material comforts: money, good fortune, recognition from friends. Overall, I'd say that it'll be a good, solid relationship so long as neither of them succumb to wild flights of fancy, but especially Luke, since the Seven is in his position. Still, the Ace of Pentacles is a good solid foundation for any relationship. 11/12 - Compatibility as lovers Nine of Pentacles/Eight of Pentacles The Nine of Pentacles is a card of material prosperity, of satisfaction and well-being, comfort and leisure. The Eight of Pentacles is a card of work, of craftsmanship; a card of the apprentice. The presence of two earth-aligned cards (almost in sequence, no less) indicates a stable relationship. I'm almost wondering if the presence of the Eight of Pentacles indicates that Seijin has something to teach Luke like kinky sex. In any case, you can't go wrong with these cards. 13, 14, 15 - Overall The Chariot, Seven of Swords, Temperance The Chariot is a card of progress, of triumph and victory, and particularly mastery of emotions. The Seven of Swords is the "thief" card, and warns of deception, but might also mean relying on oneself to overcome obstacles. Temperance is a card of harmony, the union of opposites and of moderation. Overall, I'd say the cards are indication that their relationship will be a stable one, so long as they are themselves and don't try to deceive one another. Temperance and the Chariot in particular counsel them to be...well...temperate...and not to let wild flights of fancy carry them away.

I've decided to shake things up a bit and use my Shadowscapes Tarot (clicking the link will take you to a place where you can see all the cards). I've only used this deck once (for myself) so you guys get to be my guinea pigs! Don't you feel special? If Anderson Milani and Adrian Vien got together, what would happen? 1/2 - First impression Queen of Swords/Two of Wands The Queen of Swords is honesty personified, the sort of person who can't stand liars. This is a person who is extremely perceptive and insightful. The Two of Wands is a card of personal power, the drive to accomplish things. Twos are also associated with unions of some sort. My impression is not that Adrian sees Anderson as honest, but that Anderson is simply a very honest person. The Two of Wands, in this case, could indicate that Adrian perceives that Anderson possesses much personal power (duh, he is the master in this relationship), but it could also be an indication that Adrian needs to recognize that he does have power in the relationship. The cards say: "Be bold! Be daring! Make your dreams into reality!" 3/4 - Upon learning more Three of Swords/Page of Swords The Three of Swords is a card of rejection, loneliness, and heartache. Like the Queen of Swords, the Page of Swords is honest, and intellectual, but may look at situations with the mind of a child. The Page of Swords is also known as the "spy" card. Oh look, more swords! There are a lot of sword cards in this reading. Swords are the suit of the intellect, of mental clarity, something to keep in mind as I ramble. The Three of Swords has several possible meanings in this case. Has Adrian been hurt emotionally in the past? Perhaps its something that Anderson will pick up on. Perhaps Anderson himself has emotional wounds that need to be healed. The Page of Swords is (once again) a card of truth and justice, particularly an idealistic view of these concepts. This is definitely not the time to lie to each other. 5/6 - Can they relate to each other? Nine of Swords/Knight of Swords An...interesting combination...the Nine of Swords is a card of fears and nightmares, of inner anguish. The Knight of Swords is an individual who will rush headlong into conflict, someone who is utterly fearless, but with a tendency to be violent. Purely considering the elements of each card, the two cards are in the same suit and relatively close together in the deck. This suggests that yes, they will be able to relate to each other. In terms of the meaning of the cards themselves, anxiety and inner turmoil is the name of the game for the Nine of Swords, whereas the Knight is...the exact opposite. Opposites attract? 7/8 - How attractive do they find each other? Ten of Swords/Three of Pentacles The Ten of Swords is a card of complete and utter ruin. It's often referred to as the lowest point in the entire deck (excepting the Tower card). The one upside to this card is that everything can only get better from then on. The Three of Pentacles is a card of teamwork and cooperation, of mastering a craft. As far as elemental compatibility, the elements (Earth and Air) are not only opposite each other, but actually hostile to each other. Even then, the presence of the Ten of Swords STRONGLY advises them to NOT EVEN GO THERE! Don't even think about it, just...don't... 9/10 - Compatibility as friends The Empress/Ace of Pentacles The Empress is a card of abundance, fertility, and motherhood (among other things). The Ace of Pentacles represents the "seeds" from which material prosperity can grow. And now for something completely different. The Empress is a very "earthy" card, and pentacles are associated with elemental Earth. The two cards together suggests that they are very compatible as friends, and that friendship will be a productive and ultimately fruitful relationship. 11/12 - Compatibility as lovers The Moon/Knight of Wands The Moon is a card of illusions, dreams, instability and the unknown. The Knight of Wands is a very passionate, spontaneous individual who is very much about instant gratification. Now, this is interesting. Normally I'd say that the Knight of Wands is a good card for a passionate (if fleeting) love affair, but the presence of the Moon leaves me hesitant, especially if one reads it as referring to instability, especially considering the Knight of Wands' reputation for being "fast and loose". It just sounds like a recipe for disaster. 13, 14, 15 - Overall The Chariot, Page of Wands, Five of Wands The Chariot represents triumphing over obstacles and the mastery of emotions. The Page of Wands is a free spirit, and stresses the need for action. The Five of Wands is a card of conflict, sometimes referring to friendly competition, but other times referring to minor obstacles that become increasingly difficult to overcome as time goes on. Taken together, I would say that the cards are saying the following: Control your emotions, keep your cool Action is key Beware of conflict, especially keep an eye out for the little things that have the potential to cause big trouble later on. There's a lot going on in this reading lol. There's the need to act and be honest with each other, and the suggestion that they might not make the best lovers (great friends, though).

So, since that last reading was weird, I'm going to switch back to my Tarot of Vampyres, since it loooooves relationship readings! The vampyres totally want to set everyone up, I think.
If Kiara Newheart and Angel Rivera got together, what would happen?
1/2 - First impression Four of Wands/The Magician
3/4 - Upon learning more Prince of Cups/The Hierophant
5/6 - Can they relate to each other? Two of Swords/The Empress
7/8 - How attractive do they find each other? Eight of Pentacles/Ace of Pentacles
9/10 - Compatibility as friends Three of Cups/Five of Pentacles
11/12 - Compatibility as lovers The Hermit/Queen of Pentacles
13, 14, 15 - Overall The Hanged Man, Judgement, Page of Swords

Heinkel Wolfe 8 + 5 + 9 + 5 + 2 + 5 + 3 + 5 + 6 + 3 + 6 + 5 = 62 = 8 Strength In all honesty, I find it amusing how, at some points, Strength hits the nail on the head with Heinkel (she can be moody, brash, violent, and unpredictable at times) but at others it’s not even on the map anymore (normally, Heinkel is a very reserved, quiet, cold person; while she can be loud and strong when the situation suits, she’s hardly ever proud (let’s not even discuss sexually potent) as she sees hardly anything good in herself at all, let alone things to be proud of)…

When that Magician popped up at first I was like "LOL, Angel. Are you trying to con Kiara? You bastard!" I'm not sure what to make of the Hermit/Queen of Pentacles pair in the "compatibility as lovers" point. Um...Kiara likes her solitude and Angel likes matronly women with more money, so no? Yeah, that works!

I thought I'd offer some spreads that use fewer cards in case someone wants a more "at-a-glance" look at a problem:
All-Purpose Spread (arranged in a square) 1. Now (what's going on right now) 2. Helpful actions (things appropriate to do in this situation, could also be helpful people) 3. What to avoid (things to avoid in this situation) 4. Most likely outcome (should you follow the advice in the rest of the spread)
This is a nice five card spread I like to use, it's based on the "Animal Journey" spread from Lisa Hunt's Animals Divine tarot:
1. A Major Arcana card (the energy you need to tap into to deal with the issue) 2. Wands suit (the spiritual aspect of the issue) 3. Cups suit (the emotional aspect of the issue) 4. Swords suit (the intellectual aspect of the issue) 5. Pentacles suit (the practical aspect of the issue)
Let me know if you want a reading with either of them!

I just did a random five card spread for Hideki using my Gaian Tarot (http://www.gaiantarot.com/all-cards/). The titles and meanings differ from a traditional deck, so I've put the traditional card titles in brackets.
This is what I got for him:
Major - Temperance (LOL!) Fire suit - Child of Fire (Page of Wands) Water suit - Elder of Water (King of Cups) Air suit - Seven of Air (Seven of Swords) Earth suit - Four of Earth (Four of Pentacles)
