Leo is a short-tempered, stubborn ass kemono who is by no means willing to accept the lifestyle of a slave. This much is clear by how he defies people no matter the consequence and why he has been sent back so many times by masters who just couldn't take his disobedience any longer. Just because they purchase him as a slave doesn't mean he's going to behave like one. He hopes they'll get it through their heads and give up on trying to force him into obedience. At least before his stubbornness gives out...
